This course utilizes materials from standard laboratory animal textbooks, the Animal Welfare Act regulations, the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Occupational Health and Safety in the Care and Use of Research Animals, the Use of Experimental Animals at Missouri State University and the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, McGill University, National Institutes of Health. The modules provide information that all individuals who use animals in research, testing, and teaching should know.
Missouri State's Animal Care and Use training module is designed to provide you with a broad information about the ethical responsibilities investigators of animal research are expected to provide, and to encourage thought-provoking questions about the responsibilities each investigator must show on the welfare of research animals at the University.
Additional material from the Web has been made available through links, to other sources of information. By reading these materials, Investigators will be better prepared to understand Missouri State-specific discussions that come later in this system and for answering the final assessment questions for certification.
Each external link in the training module will pop up in separate browser windows, allowing you to read them while keeping active the training module window.
A notes section is provided for your convenience on each page to allow for the entering and printing of notes. This is situated on the right side of each screen.
At the end of the modules you will have the opportunity to take a Final Assessment, print your certificate, as well as complete a short evaluation to determine the extent to which this training course met your learning experience.
